Throwback Photos: Programs of the Past

Let’s stroll down memory lane and look back on some of the programs and events your library offered in the past. This is the first in a series of “throwback” blogs we’ll post. Be sure to let us know in the comments section below if you have any fond memories of these or other programs from the past! In the late 1990s and early 2000s, we were happy to hold a program called the “Day of 1,000 Stars,” where the library was decorated with, well, stars, and “stars” of the community were invited to read books to an audience of younger patrons. From teachers and principals that the children might recognize from school to police officers and firefighters from the Grayslake area, many local icons were happy to lead a storytime. The Bears’ quarterback at the time, Jim Miller, even came to read Curious George and stayed after to sign fans’ footballs! In 2004, the Friends of the Library ran a fundraiser in the form of a Monopoly tournament! Patrons and staff alike participated in a fun competition ...

They brought with them their home country’s rich culture, and began to write a new chapter in American history. We invite you to celebrate Italian-American Heritage Month with us by checking out one of the books below. Also, check out the collection of Italian films on Kanopy ! For adults: Biographies and memoirs: Madam Speaker: Nancy Pelosi and the Lessons of Power by Susan Page Sinatra: The Chairman by James Kaplan Taste: My Life Through Food by Stanley Tucci Books by Italian-Americans: The Godfather b...
