Throwback Photos: Programs of the Past

Let’s stroll down memory lane and look back on some of the programs and events your library offered in the past. This is the first in a series of “throwback” blogs we’ll post. Be sure to let us know in the comments section below if you have any fond memories of these or other programs from the past!

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, we were happy to hold a program called the “Day of 1,000 Stars,” where the library was decorated with, well, stars, and “stars” of the community were invited to read books to an audience of younger patrons. From teachers and principals that the children might recognize from school to police officers and firefighters from the Grayslake area, many local icons were happy to lead a storytime. The Bears’ quarterback at the time, Jim Miller, even came to read Curious George and stayed after to sign fans’ footballs!

In 2004, the Friends of the Library ran a fundraiser in the form of a Monopoly tournament! Patrons and staff alike participated in a fun competition to raise money for the library. The Friends of the Library play an important role in the library, and you can see what their efforts have paid for here!

Some things don’t change! We have been offering summer concerts since the early 2000s, which is a tradition that continues to this day.
