Library Card Sign-Up Month

If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you already have a Grayslake Area Public Library card. But does everyone in your household have one? If not, or if by chance you haven’t signed up for one yet, September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, the perfect time to sign up for a first-time GAPL library card.

Why sign up for a card? Of course, having a library card unlocks a whole world of information and entertainment in the form of books, movies, music, and more. But did you know that a Grayslake library card grants you access to research and learning tools? Check out Mango Languages to learn a new language, find your next arts and crafts project with CreativeBug, or research your family history with Ancestry. You can also check out ebooks and eaudiobooks with Libby or Hoopla, or stream movies, documentaries, and kids shows with Kanopy!

You will also be able to check out items from our library of things. Explore the night sky with one of our telescopes, stay connected during a trip with a Wi-Fi hotspot, or get ready for your job hunt with our job seeker kit.

If you have a child who doesn’t have a library card yet, we encourage you to sign them up; there is no minimum age! Signing your child up for a library card can give them a sense of belonging to the community, can teach them responsibility by making sure they return their books on time, and, of course, they can utilize age-appropriate research & learning tools, like Fiero Code, which teaches how to code, or Hiveclass, a new tool that teaches sports and other physical skills.

As a bonus, everybody who signs up for a first time, GAPL card this September will be entered into a grand prize drawing. You can win a pickleball set, premium magnetic tiles, Lego botanical collection sets, or a Kodak photo printer with paper.
