Update on Our Digital Collection

Why The Change?

We regularly evaluate how best to utilize the limited dollars we have to spend on all our materials and services, including our digital offerings, to maintain operational efficiencies and provide you with a wide range of titles and formats.


After much consideration, it was concluded: Continuing to pay subscription fees to multiple platforms is not a sustainable or efficient use of tax dollars, and redirecting the cloudLibrary funds into Libby and Hoopla will enhance our digital reading and entertainment collection offerings.  


Did You Know? 

  • The number of patrons using cloudLibrary is minimal compared to those using Libby and Hoopla.

  • Each provider of digital materials charges us an annual subscription fee in addition to the cost of each title we purchase. 

  • EBooks and audiobooks cost more than physical books, and we must pay for each digital copy. 


How Will You Benefit?

  • The money previously used for the cloudLibrary subscription will now be allocated to purchase more titles in Libby, expanding the collection and reducing wait times for popular titles.

  • Our purchasing power in Libby will go further as their pricing model includes discounts based on volume.

  • In addition to adding more to our collection in Libby, starting July 1, 2023, the number of monthly checkouts per library card in Hoopla will increase from 5 to 10!

 

What Do You Need To Do?

  • Enjoy the titles you have checked out in cloudLibrary - until June 26.

  • Create an account in both Libby and Hoopla. 

  • Add both these apps to your reading devices.

  • Search for the cloudLibrary titles you have checked out, placed on hold, or suggested in Libby and/or Hoopla.

  • If you find them, check them out if they are available or place them on hold.

  • If you don’t see the titles you are looking for, check back after July 7, when the migration of cloudLibrary titles is scheduled to be complete. 


You will have uninterrupted access to Libby and Hoopla between 6/26 and 7/7.
