Special Library and Board of Trustees Message

The Grayslake Area Public Library and the Board of Trustees are very appreciative of our most recent partnership with Community Consolidated School District 46’s Board of Education, the Grayslake Heritage Center and Museum, and members of the community who participated in the Juneteenth Celebration of Freedom. The event was educational, uplifting, and unifying for our whole community.

The defacing of the collaborative Juneteenth Community Flag that was partially colored by attendees on the day of the event and then made available for members of the community to complete in the library is extremely unsettling. This action does not represent our library values, and the Grayslake Area Public Library and the Board of Trustees strongly denounce this act.

We will not let this one incident overshadow what was an incredible and inspiring event for many in our community. We will continue to be a library that values a culture of inclusivity and mutual respect.
