Read More: 4 Ways to Fit More Reading in Your Day

Do you have a stack of books you keep renewing but never get around to reading? Are you keeping up with your “Want To Read” list on Goodreads? Do you feel a bit disappointed when you get a Libby notification that your hold is ready, but you don’t have time for it right now?

Great, you’re just like us!

We’re constantly trying to fit more reading into our day, and we’ve got a few ideas for you:

  1. Create a reading routine. Maybe you don’t have a lot of time in your busy schedule, but you can include reading in your regular daily activities. Listen to audiobooks during your commute, while you're getting ready for the day, while you’re cooking, or while out for a walk. Insert reading times into the errands you already have to do or the downtime you may have throughout the day.

  2. Use different formats for the same book. Often you can borrow the audiobook, ebook, and hardcover of the same title, and if you use your library card, they are all FREE! Stuck waiting for an appointment or in the school pick-up line - listen to the audiobook on your phone. Then when you are at home and prefer to read from a book, you can pick up where you left off.

  3. Read what you want to read. Often we try to read titles that are trendy or suggestions from friends, even if those books don’t hook us right away. If you’re into cozy mysteries, historical romance, true crime titles, or financial magazines, read those! Also, you don’t have to finish a title if it doesn’t interest you; pick up a new book and try again.

  4. Set a goal. Before you sit down to read or hit play on your audiobook, set a reading goal for yourself. Can you read for 20 minutes, finish two chapters, or finish a certain number of pages? If you have a goal, you’ll be more motivated to read, knowing you can achieve it.
