By Ellen Levine and Kadir Nelson

The remarkable true story of a slave, Henry “Box” Brown, who gained his freedom by arranging himself to be mailed to abolitionists in a large wooden box. Written by Ellen Levine, illustrated by Kadir Nelson, and read by Jerry Dixon, this story is brought to life in a read-along.

Schomburg: The Man Who Built A Library

By Carole Boston Weatherford

Afro-Puerto Rican Arturo Schomburg was a key figure in the Harlem Renaissance in the 1920s and 30s. He was an intellectual and a collector and he noticed a void in the New York Public Library, which he sought to fill. Thanks to him, the NYPL now has the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, a collection of African literature and history.
